Northern Dance Theatre offers two distinct studio spaces and a welcoming common area on the third floor of a historic building.
- Studio 1: A spacious and luminous studio, perfect for larger classes. Its high ceilings, expansive windows, and polished wood floors create an atmosphere of freedom and artistic expression.
- Fowler Studio: A more intimate setting, ideal for focused practice and smaller groups. The warm ambiance, mirrored walls, and sprung dance floor provide a nurturing and safe environment for technical development and creative exploration.
- Clubroom: The former IOOF lounge, now a comfortable and inviting space for parents and students to relax before or after classes. The historic wooden bar counter, repurposed as a service counter, adds a touch of charm. Comfortable seating and coffee tables create a welcoming atmosphere. Restrooms and changing areas are also available on this floor.
Please note that there is no long-term storage (lockers) for student belongings – all personal items must be removed from the building when students depart.
Accessibility Information
Northern Dance Theatre is committed to providing an inclusive and welcoming environment for all students, parents, and visitors. We recognize that accessibility is important, and while our historic building presents some limitations, we strive to offer reasonable accommodations whenever possible.
Building Description
Our studios are located on the third floor of the historic Opera House and Odd Fellow Lodge building, constructed in 1911. This beautiful example of Classical Revival architecture features three stories with no elevator access.
Accessibility Challenges
Stairs: The studios are only accessible by stairs, which may present a challenge for individuals with mobility limitations.
Restrooms: The restrooms in the building are not fully accessible.
Accommodations
We understand that these limitations may affect some individuals’ ability to fully participate in our programs. Please contact us in advance if you have specific accessibility needs, and we will do our best to accommodate you.
Alternative Arrangements
Parent Viewing: Due to the layout of the building, parent viewing from the first floor is not possible. However, on open class days, we may be able to film classes for parents or guardians with mobility limitations, if requested in advance.
Meetings: If you need to meet with an instructor and cannot access the third floor, we can arrange to meet you in a more accessible location.
Ongoing Efforts
We are continually exploring ways to improve accessibility within the constraints of our historic building. We welcome your feedback and suggestions.
