Regular attendance is crucial for a student’s progress and the overall flow of classes. This policy outlines Northern Dance Theatre’s (NDT) expectations and procedures regarding attendance and make-up classes.
- Attendance Expectations
• Students are expected to attend all scheduled classes.
• Consistent attendance is essential for individual progress and class cohesion.
• Please arrive at least 15 minutes before class to warm up and prepare. - Reporting Absences
• If a student will be absent, please notify the studio as soon as possible.
• For planned absences, inform the instructor or studio office in advance.
• In case of sudden illness or emergency, call or email the studio before class time. - Excused vs. Unexcused Absences
• Excused absences include illness, family emergencies, or school obligations.
• Unexcused absences include forgetting about class, scheduling conflicts, or lack of transportation.
• Excessive unexcused absences may affect a student’s participation in performances or advancement to the next level. - Tardiness
• Students arriving more than 10 minutes late may be asked to observe class for safety reasons.
• Chronic tardiness will be addressed with the student and parents/guardians. - Make-up Classes
• Students with excused absences are encouraged to attend a make-up class.
• Make-up classes should be at the same level or lower and must be scheduled within 30 days of the missed class.
• To schedule a make-up class, contact the studio office for available options. - Long-term Absences
• For extended absences (more than two weeks) due to illness or injury, please provide a doctor’s note.
• The studio will work with families to determine appropriate make-up options or potential tuition adjustments for long-term medical absences. - Attendance During Performance Seasons
• Attendance is mandatory for all scheduled rehearsals leading up to performances.
• Missing more than two rehearsals may result in adjusted roles or removal from a performance piece. - Inclement Weather
• In case of severe weather, check our website, social media, or call the studio for class cancellation information.
• We will attempt to schedule make-up classes for weather-related cancellations when possible.
NDT reserves the right to dismiss students from class or performances for poor attendance. We appreciate your commitment to regular attendance and open communication regarding any attendance issues.
