Production and Performance Policy

Northern Dance Theatre (NDT) is committed to providing students with performance opportunities that showcase their hard work and artistic growth. This policy outlines our expectations and procedures for productions and performances.

  1. Production Schedule
    • NDT typically organizes 2-3 productions per year.
    • Each production usually consists of 2-3 performances/showtimes, spanning a single weekend.
    • The production schedule for the year will be announced at the beginning of the fall semester.
  2. Participation
    • All students are encouraged to participate in NDT productions.
    • Roles may be assigned based on skill level, attendance, and auditions (if applicable).
    • Students must maintain good attendance and be current on tuition to participate in productions.
  3. Rehearsals
    • Regular class attendance is crucial for performance preparation.
    • Additional rehearsals will be scheduled outside of regular class times in the weeks leading up to the production.
    • A detailed rehearsal schedule will be distributed at least one month prior to each production.
    • Attendance at all scheduled rehearsals is mandatory for participating students.
  4. Costume Fees and Fittings
    • Costume fees (if required) are separate from regular tuition and are non-refundable.
    • Costume payments are typically due 2-3 months before each production.
    • Students will be measured for costumes during regular class times.
    • Minor alterations are the responsibility of the student/parent.
  5. Tickets
    • Tickets for each production will be available for purchase approximately one month before the performance dates.
    • Ticket prices and purchasing procedures will be communicated for each production.
    • Performers do not need a ticket for their own production.
  6. Volunteer Expectations
    • Parent/community volunteers are essential for successful productions.
    • We ask that each family volunteer for at least one aspect of the production (e.g., costumes, sets, ushering, concessions).
    • Volunteer sign-up sheets will be available at the studio and online.
  7. Photography and Videography
    • Professional photos and videos may be taken during dress rehearsals and/or performances.
    • Order forms for photos and videos will be distributed in advance, if applicable.
    • Personal photography and videography during performances is strictly prohibited for the safety of the dancers and respect for the audience.
  8. Performance Etiquette
    • Dancers must arrive at the designated call time, fully prepared with costumes, hair, and makeup.
    • Students should behave professionally backstage and follow all instructions from staff and volunteers.
    • Proper theatre etiquette is expected from all audience members.
  9. Make-up and Hair
    • Specific make-up and hair requirements will be communicated for each production.
    • Dancers are responsible for their own make-up application and hair styling unless otherwise specified.
  10. Props and Accessories
    • Any props or additional accessories required for performances will be communicated in advance.
    • Students are responsible for keeping track of their costumes, props, and accessories during rehearsals and performances.
  11. Required Items
    • All students participating in productions must have a garment bag clearly labeled with their name.
    • This garment bag will be used to store and transport costumes during rehearsals and performances.
    • Additional required items specific to each production will be communicated in advance.
  12. Performance Cancellations
    • In the rare event of a performance cancellation due to unforeseen circumstances, NDT will make every effort to reschedule.
    • No refunds will be given for canceled performances, but credit may be applied to future classes or productions.

By participating in NDT productions, students and parents agree to abide by this Production and Performance Policy. We appreciate your cooperation in making our productions successful and enjoyable for all involved.
