Proper attire is crucial for safety, freedom of movement, and maintaining a professional atmosphere in our dance classes. This policy outlines the dress requirements for all Northern Dance Theatre (NDT) students.
General Requirements:
- All dance wear should be clean and in good repair.
- No jewelry is allowed except for small, stud earrings.
- Hair must be securely fastened away from the face and neck for all classes.
- All students must have a garment bag clearly labeled with their name for use during productions and performances.
Class-Specific Requirements:
- Ballet Classes (Girls/Women):
• Leotard in the style/color designated for your level
• Pink ballet tights
• Pink ballet shoes (canvas or leather)
• Hair in a neat bun - Ballet Classes (Boys/Men):
• White or black fitted t-shirt
• Black tights or leggings
• Black or white ballet shoes
• Dance belt (for boys aged 10 and up) - Modern/Contemporary Classes
• Solid-colored leotard or fitted top
• Footless tights or leggings
• Bare feet or dance paws - Jazz/Tap Classes
• Leotard or fitted top
• Jazz pants, leggings, or shorts
• Appropriate jazz or tap shoes - Hip Hop Classes
• Comfortable, loose-fitting clothes
• Clean sneakers (not worn outside) - Tiny Tots/Creative Movement
• Comfortable clothes that allow free movement
• Ballet shoes or bare feet as instructed by the teacher
Notes:
- Students not adhering to the dress code may be asked to observe rather than participate in class.
- Please mark all dance items with the student’s name.
- Specific leotard colors or styles for each level will be communicated separately and updated annually.
