Northern Dance Theatre (NDT) greatly values the support and involvement of our dance families and community members. Volunteers play a crucial role in the success of our productions and events. This policy outlines the expectations, responsibilities, and procedures for volunteering with NDT.
- Eligibility
• Volunteers may include parents, guardians, adult family members, alumni, and community members aged 18 and above.
• All volunteers must complete a volunteer application form and agree to a background check if working directly with children. - Volunteer Opportunities
• Production support (costumes, sets, props, backstage assistance)
• Front-of-house (ushering, ticket sales, concessions)
• Administrative support (office help, mailings)
• Event planning and execution
• Fundraising activities - Time Commitment
• Each dance family is expected to volunteer for at least one aspect of each production their child participates in.
• Specific time commitments will vary based on the volunteer role and event needs.
• Volunteers are asked to honor their commitments and provide ample notice if unable to fulfill a scheduled shift. - Training and Supervision
• Volunteers will receive appropriate training for their assigned tasks.
• A staff member or experienced volunteer will supervise and be available for questions during volunteer shifts. - Conduct Expectations
• Volunteers must adhere to all NDT policies and procedures.
• Professionalism, respect, and confidentiality are expected at all times.
• Volunteers should dress appropriately for their assigned tasks. - Safety and Security
• Volunteers must sign in and out for each shift.
• Volunteers should wear provided identification (e.g., name tags, volunteer badges) while on duty.
• Any safety concerns or incidents should be reported immediately to NDT staff. - Communication
• Volunteer opportunities will be communicated via email, studio newsletters, and posted notices.
• A volunteer coordinator will be the primary point of contact for scheduling and questions. - Recognition
• NDT values its volunteers and will recognize their contributions through:- Volunteer appreciation events
- Recognition in production programs
- Volunteer of the Month highlights
- Conflict Resolution
• Any issues or concerns should be brought to the attention of the volunteer coordinator or studio director.
• NDT reserves the right to dismiss a volunteer who does not adhere to policies and procedures or fails to satisfactorily perform their assigned duties. - Benefits
• Volunteers contribute to the success and growth of NDT and the broader dance community.
• Volunteering provides opportunities to meet other dance families and build community connections.
• Specific benefits (e.g., complimentary tickets, discounts) may be offered for certain volunteer roles and will be communicated in advance. - Liability Waiver
• Volunteers will be required to sign a liability waiver before beginning their service with NDT.
By volunteering with NDT, individuals agree to abide by this Volunteer Policy and all other applicable NDT policies. We greatly appreciate the time, energy, and skills our volunteers contribute to making NDT a vibrant and successful dance community.
